Alex Szopa is a collector of faces. He is always in search of dramatic subjects and environments. An interesting subject, moment, or place is essential in creating superb images. This is why travel photography is very enticing for Alex. He is always on the search for the next face, the next moment, the next corner of the world to discover, making travel photography his main passion. While visiting remote areas of the world, Alex learns about the people that inhabit them. He befriends the local people, gaining knowledge about their culture and traditions, offering essential goods or service in return for allowing him to photograph them. Alex believes that the perfect image is not captured, it is organically created through honest and raw human interaction--interaction that is driven by Alex’s enthusiasm for photography and compassion for the people he photographs. Alex’s goal is to preserve the essence of people living on the edge, expressing the true nature of humanity. Traveling to villages that have not been influenced by the dictates of the materialistic world, he looks for the beautiful simplicity in the day-to-day lives of these people. Alex believes that the face expresses the fundamental aspects of a person’s life, trials, loves and dreams. Alex is currently working on a publication of collected images from villages and cultures around the world. When he is not traveling the globe recording the lives of people in different cultures, he can be found in his studio, working for clients with a variety of needs from specialized portraits, corporate head shots to food photography and fashion. Location work is also one of Alex’s specialties. Taking the studio outdoors he is able to achieve studio quality images in natural settings, adding depth and variety to his work. Alex likes to mix things up keeping his work fresh and fun. Discovering new techniques and working with the latest equipment allows him to continue to expand and stay on the leading edge of his profession.
